"Rumors", written by Lohan, Cory Rooney, Taryll Jackson, and TJ Jackson, is the autobiographical account of a pop star trying to escape the rumors that follow LINDSAY lOHAN everywhere she goes. There is a remix that features rapper Ludacris. The song was described by Rolling Stone as "a bass-heavy, angry club anthem." Its s*xually suggestive video reached number one on MTV's TRL and was nominated for Best Pop Video at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards. On February 25, 2005, "Rumors" earned a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. The song has references and similarities to Michael Jackson's song "Privacy" from his 2001 album Invincible.

Rumors song was originally going to be titled "Just What It Is". It is Lindsay Lohan's most successful single to date both domestically and internationally, although her 2008 single "Bossy" topped the Hot Dance Club Play chart.
